On the 20th of Feb 2002 we left the comforts of home and moved to the UK. Previously we have been storing photos of our various travels on www.lostsheep.com but now we have a new (and better) way. We are sponging off Hayden!!
We stayed in Milton Keynes for six weeks with our friends Lisa and Sharon Alexander. Cam was looking for work and Helene started studying the day after we arrived.
Cam had no luck with finding a job and we wanted to look around a bit so we moved to Bristol at the end of March. We stayed in a Serviced apartment near the city centre for three weeks. During which Hayden came to visit to play Ultimate with several friends.
We had a great time in Bristol, it is a really interesting university town with lots to see and do. It is also on the border with Somerset, Wales and just down the road from Bath, which has the old Roman Springs. We went to visit these with Hayden and had a good walk around the place.
After Hayden wandered off to Singapore to repair his bank balance Cameron got lucky in the job hunt and interviewed with WorldCom (lucky I hear you say!!) so we moved to Reading. This is an unusual place to live as it is an old market town with lots of history while having a bad reputation for crime. It is just 30 minutes by train from Paddington, which is good because we enjoy going to London without having to live there. The place we live in looks like Coronation Street. It is just two blocks from the Thames and less than 10 minutes walk to the train station which makes it perfect for us.
We have traveled a fair bit now and plan to do more. Once Cameron started work the priority was saving and work got in the way a bit to. Actually the first trips we went on we did separately. Cameron had to go to Atlanta for 2 weeks for work and so Helene went to visit her cousins and explore the family history in Northern Ireland.
The first trip we did together was at the end of July. We went for a long weekend to Paris. We traveled on the Eurostar, which was a pleasant experience, and it was the middle of summer so it was very hot. We had a ball, saw the sights while also spending a fair bit of the time watching the world go by.
